"It is... green."

I must admit that along with being a cocktail enthusiast, I'm also a pretty hardcore Trekkie. So is my son. Ah, the life of a couple of nerds fascinated with cocktail recipes. It really is great!

So, does anyone remember The Next Generation episode, "Relics?" It's one of my favorites.

Scotty from the past goes into present day Ten Forward and happily orders his scotch, not realizing the creation of synthehol over the past 200 years he's been gone.

He spit it out and Data came over to explain to him what synthehol was. Scotty was not happy at all. Data went behind Guinan's bar and found a bottle of real liquor she kept for special occasions. Scotty asked him what it tasted like, and after a few sniffs Data told him, "It is... green."

That was good enough for Scotty. The drink turned out to be Aldebaran whiskey which Scotty enjoyed and drank most of the bottle by himself.

This weekend I experimented with a shot called the Cocomelon. I had to tweak it a bit because I didn't have all of the ingredients.

The original recipe:

1 part DeKuyper Melon Schnapps Liqueur

1 part Cruzan Coconut Rum

1 part Pineapple Juice

1 part Sour Mix

My recipe:

.5 oz Midori

.5 oz Malibu Rum

.5 oz Pineapple Juice

I measured each .5 oz in a shot measurer separately and poured each .5 oz of the ingredients into shot glasses. Pouring .5 oz ingredients individually gave it an entirely different look than pouring each .5 oz ingredients all together. Pouring them together gave them a lighter cloudy green. But pouring them separately gave them a bright green color like the Aldebaran whiskey Scotty enjoyed on "Relics."

And they were pretty tasty too! They weren't very strong and tasted like something you might drink on the beach. I made several for me and my son to toast to. Besides, what’s a good shot without a toast? I'll definitely be making these again!
